Kano Assembly Reassures 2025 Pilgrims of Safety, Commends Welfare Board’s Preparation

The Kano State House of Assembly has reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring the safety and welfare of pilgrims from the state ahead of the 2025 Hajj exercise. This follows the submission of a comprehensive report by the House Standing Committee on Hajj, which recently conducted an oversight visit to Saudi Arabia.

The report, presented during a plenary session, evaluated key logistical arrangements—including transportation, accommodation, and feeding—made by the Kano State Pilgrims Welfare Board (KSPWB) on behalf of the state government.

This is contained in a statement Signed by Kamaluddeen Sani Shawai, Chief Press Secretary Kano State House of Assembly on Tuesday.

Chairman of the Committee, Hon. Aliyu Yusuf Daneji, explained that the visit was in line with the constitutional oversight mandate outlined in Section 103 of the 1999 Constitution of Nigeria and Order VIII Rule 2 of the Assembly’s Standing Rules. The aim, he said, was to assess the implementation of the KSPWB’s annual budget and inspect Hajj-related preparations.

Among the committee’s findings were:

Kano State received 4,356 Hajj slots from the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON).

A total of 3,300 intending pilgrims have already paid their Hajj fares.

The KSPWB has secured quality accommodations in Shahra Mansur, including two four-star hotels—a significant improvement over previous years.

Adequate vehicles and ambulances have been arranged to support pilgrims’ mobility and health needs.

The committee also made several recommendations, including the need for improved ICT training for KSPWB center offices, procurement of additional official vehicles, enhanced environmental hygiene, and commendations for both Governor Engr. Abba Kabir Yusuf and the KSPWB for their proactive efforts.

The Speaker, Rt. Hon. Jibril Ismail Falgore, praised the committee for its detailed work and reaffirmed the House’s support for effective Hajj management. The report was unanimously adopted by the House.
