The Kano State House of Assembly and the Bauchi State House of Assembly have agreed to deepen collaboration aimed at improving legislative procedures and strengthening institutional ties between the two chambers.
The agreement was reached on Tuesday during a courtesy visit by members of the Bauchi State House of Assembly, led by the Chairman of the Committee on Finance, Hon. Ibrahim Tanko Nura, to the Kano State House of Assembly.
Receiving the delegation on behalf of the Speaker of the Kano State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Jibril Ismail Falgore, the Deputy Speaker, Rt. Hon. Muhammad Bello Butu Butu, commended the Bauchi lawmakers for the visit and reaffirmed Kano Assembly’s commitment to enhancing partnerships in legislation, House procedures and other key areas of governance.
According to a statement issued by the Speaker’s Spokesperson, Kamaluddeen Sani Shawai, Butu Butu also expressed appreciation for the Bauchi Assembly’s condolence message over the recent loss of two members of the Kano Assembly, noting that the House was still mourning their demise.
He further assured the visiting lawmakers that the Kano State MDA Revenue Harmonization Law of 2016 remains intact and available for review, adding that the law could serve as a useful guide for Bauchi State.
In his remarks, the Majority Leader of the Kano State House of Assembly, Hon. Lawal Hussain Dala, explained that the harmonized tax law was enacted to eliminate multiple taxation. He highlighted the long-standing political and legislative relationship between Kano and Bauchi states, recalling Bauchi’s historical influence on Kano’s political development dating back to the era of Malam Aminu Kano.
Also speaking, the Clerk of the Kano State House of Assembly, Alhaji Bashir Diso, stressed the importance of the harmonized tax law to both states and thanked the Bauchi delegation for the visit.
Earlier, Hon. Ibrahim Tanko Nura said the visit was aimed at exchanging ideas and obtaining approval for a copy of the harmonized tax law for study, with a view to adapting and implementing it in Bauchi State. He praised the commitment of Kano Assembly committees, particularly the Appropriation Committee, to effective legislative work.
He reaffirmed the Bauchi Assembly’s commitment to sustained cooperation with Kano, noting that such collaboration would ultimately serve the interests of the people of both states.
