Kano-CARES urges stakeholders to sustain project beyond completion
The Kano State Covid-19 Action Recovery and Economic Stimulus (Kano-CARES) project has urged stakeholders and government to aid in maintaining the initiative beyond its conclusion in the next three months.
Ahmadu Rufa’i, the Delivery Head of Kano CARES made the plea while addressing journalists from the Kano Association of Online Journalists (ASKOJ) on Monday.
He emphasized the need for both the Federal and Kano State Governments to “consider sustaining the project after its completion” to continue easing the plight of the less privileged.
He said, it was after COVID 19 that the World Bank and federal government rolled the project out to help the poor masses in order to provide them with small businesses that will sustain and cater to their daily needs.
He said, “The high rate of insecurity in the country can be tracked down to lack of work.
“When these people are empowered, they tend to be better because most of them when given these empowerment make judicious use of it and even sustain the business.
“It will be a waste of knowledge when this project ends without continuation as even the staffs have been trained professionally.”
The coordinator highlighted the project’s impact, stating that it has empowered “over 21,000 beneficiaries” since its inception.
He also underscored its infrastructural contributions, including the construction of “over 80 kilometers of roads across twenty local government areas and the renovation of “no fewer than 39 public toilets” in various markets and communities.
The empowerment package include, the distribution of 50-day-old chicks, bags of feeds, medication, and assets,” as well as equipment like “vegetable processing machines” and “cereal grinding machines” to disadvantaged households throughout Kano State.
