The Deputy Governor of Kano State, Comrade Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, on Monday, emphasized that local government employees are the backbone of any progressive state across the nation.

He made this statement during the 8th Quadrennial Conference organized by the Kano State Chapter of the Nigerian Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) to elect new leadership.

Comr. Gwarzo highlighted that critical areas such as infrastructure development, security, and the sanitation of hospitals, markets, schools, and motor parks are all attributed to the dedication and efforts of local government workers.

He further noted that since Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf assumed office, the Kano State Government has been working tirelessly to improve the welfare of local government employees. “This is evident in the ongoing training and retraining of staff, as well as the prioritization of civil servant welfare,” he stated.

The Deputy Governor congratulated the newly elected NULGE leadership and urged them to fulfill their mandate with dedication, setting a positive example for other union members.

Earlier in his address, NULGE Kano State President, Comrade Abdullahi Muhammad Gwarzo, expressed his satisfaction with the unity within the union, which successfully merged six different factions, thanks to the efforts of the Deputy Governor.

He also commended the NULGE National President for promoting peaceful coexistence within the union at the national level.

Comr. Muhammad expressed gratitude to the delegates for re-electing him, vowing to meet their expectations and elevate the union to greater heights.

In his remarks, the National President of NULGE, Comrade Hambali Hakeem Olatunji, thanked the Kano NULGE members for their commitment to maintaining peace and unity within the union.

He reaffirmed that local government autonomy is essential for achieving significant developments in areas such as GDP growth, security, and infrastructure, stressing that full autonomy is key to these achievements.

He also urged local government employees in Kano to continue supporting the state government and remain loyal and dedicated, recognizing the state’s efforts to improve workers’ welfare.
