Political tension surrounding the proposed impeachment of the Deputy Governor of Kano State, Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, has sparked concern among members of the Gwarzo community, with youth leaders calling for reflection and unity.
The concern was raised by the Association of Youth Awareness (AYA) in a statement signed by its president, Comrade Adamu Sani Galadima, who said the recent political developments affecting leaders from Gwarzo Local Government Area have generated anxiety among residents.
According to Galadima, the impeachment move against the deputy governor, reportedly initiated within the Kano State House of Assembly, has revived questions about why prominent political figures from Gwarzo often find themselves at the centre of political controversies.
He noted that the development comes shortly after the removal of former Minister of State for Housing and Urban Development, Abdullahi Tijjani Gwarzo, from the federal cabinet, an incident that many in the community had earlier described as a major setback for the area.
Galadima said the two developments have prompted many observers to ask what he described as a troubling question: “Why always Gwarzo?”
He stressed that leadership positions at both federal and state levels should be viewed not as personal achievements but as opportunities for communities to contribute to governance and national development.
The youth leader also expressed concern that some individuals from the community celebrated the removal of the former minister, describing such reactions as a sign of division and lack of political maturity.
He warned that internal divisions within the community could weaken its political strength and reduce future opportunities for representation.
Galadima, however, said many supporters remain hopeful that the deputy governor will overcome the current political challenges.
He also acknowledged what he described as visible contributions made during Gwarzo’s tenure, including efforts in infrastructure development, youth and women empowerment programmes, employment opportunities, and the promotion of senior civil servants in the state.
While noting that political competition is normal in a democratic system, the AYA president urged the youth of Gwarzo Local Government Area to embrace unity and political awareness in order to protect future opportunities for the community.
He concluded by calling on residents to reflect on the situation and promote solidarity, saying unity and maturity would determine whether future leadership opportunities for Gwarzo are preserved or lost.
