Kano Government to Strengthen Collaboration with Online Media
The Kano State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening partnerships with online media organizations to enhance information dissemination and public engagement.
The Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, made this known during a stakeholders’ meeting with the Association of Online Media Organizations. The meeting is part of the government’s ongoing engagements with key players in the state’s media sector.
Comrade Waiya highlighted the critical role of digital platforms in modern journalism, noting that online media provides real-time news updates to a global audience. He assured that the government recognizes the importance of the sector and is committed to collaborating with online media practitioners to effectively communicate government policies and programs.
“As key stakeholders in the information ecosystem, your role is invaluable. The government will ensure your active involvement in its activities, including capacity-building initiatives and training programs to enhance professionalism in the field,” Waiya stated.
He also stressed the need for ethical journalism, urging online media professionals to uphold fairness, accuracy, and respect for individual rights while promoting professionalism. Furthermore, he encouraged unity among association members to strengthen their collective impact on public information dissemination.
In response, representatives of the Association of Online Media Organizations commended the government for acknowledging their contributions to public enlightenment. They, however, appealed for government support, particularly in securing retainership arrangements to improve their financial sustainability and facilitating regular training for members.
The meeting marks another step in the Kano State Government’s commitment to fostering a more inclusive and professional media environment in the state.
