Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf on Saturday warned social media influencers and political commentators against making what he described as disrespectful and inflammatory remarks about former governor and political leader Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, saying such conduct could threaten peace in the state.
Yusuf issued the warning while distributing 600 motorcycles to social media influencers at the Government House in Kano, according to a statement by his spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa.
The governor said Kwankwaso, the national leader of the Kwankwasiyya Movement and a former defence minister, had made significant contributions to Kano’s political and socio-economic development and deserved respect.
He cautioned that the misuse of social media to spread insults, misinformation and hate speech could undermine unity and stability, adding that freedom of expression must be exercised responsibly.
“Political engagement should be based on issues and constructive dialogue, not personal attacks,” Yusuf said.
He urged beneficiaries of the motorcycles to use their platforms to promote accurate information, peace and public awareness about government activities, describing the initiative as part of efforts to strengthen communication between the government and residents.
Yusuf reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to maintaining stability and peaceful political coexistence in Kano State.
