Kano Govt Apologizes To Residents Over Perennial Water Scarcity

By Abdullahi Yusuf

Kano State Government has apologized to residents of Kano and its environs over the perennial water scarcity in the area.

In a radio jingle monitored in Kano, the Kano State Water Board said the situation was not intentional.

The board explained that the scarcity was caused by the ongoing repair works at its water treatment plants at Challawa and Tamburawa.

According to the board, the work is being carrying out to improve water supply to the entire city and its environs.

While appealing to the residents to exercise patience, the board said the repair work is about to be completed, stressing that the board is up and doing to ensure provision of portable water to the people.

“We sincerely apologize for the water scarcity being experienced in the state.

“It is not deliberate. The scarcity was caused by repair works currently taking place at our treatment plants at Challawa and Tamburawa.

“The work is currently going on and will be completed in the next few days,” the board said.

Our Correspondent observed that residents of the city have been experiencing acute water scarcity with many of them queueing up at taps and borehole spots to fetch water.

The scarcity bites even harder as Muslims observe the Ramadan fast when water is usually in high demand.

Water vendors have capitalized on the situation to charge higher prices, selling a jerry can for between N100 and N120.
