Kano govt begins free maternity health services, mobile clinics initiative

The Governor Kano State, Abba Kabir Yusuf has revealed that the state has commenced free maternity health services in all hospitals spread across the state.

He also disclosed that plans to kickstart mobile clinics are underway, as the state has acquired the necessary vehicles and equipment for the initiative to begin.

The Governor made this announcement on Monday during a meeting with Mr. Mahama Ase Asesini, the Ghanaian Deputy Minister of Health, who led a delegation from the Ministry on a courtesy visit to the Governor at the Government House.

According to the governor, the state has implemented many policies aimed at transforming the healthcare system in the state.

He stated, “Since our inception, we have diligently worked towards providing essential healthcare services to the residents of the state, particularly focusing on women and vulnerable children.

“When we took office, nothing was working as per as the health sector was concern. We brought up many policies that will bring up the status of health care delivery of the state.

“We implemented free maternity healthcare for all pregnant women in the state and initiated the renovation of all the general hospitals. Progress has been made in eight metropolitan areas, and we ensured we took care of the children.

“We also launched a program called the mobile clinic. We have acquired the necessary vehicles and equipment for its launch, and with the grace of God, we will deploy it to all 44 local governments in the state.”

While pledging his commitment to partner with the government of Ghana, Governor Yusuf also promised to visit Ghana, with a particular focus on collaboration in the fields of health, education, and human capital development.

Earlier, Mr. Mahama Ase Asesini, Deputy Health Minister of the Republic of Ghana, said that he had led a delegation from Ghana’s Health Ministry to meet with the Governor to strengthen the relationship between the two countries.

Mr. Mahama Ase assured of follow-up meetings, discussions, and deliberations to further solidify the areas of cooperation.
