Kano govt Condemns Security Blockage of National Tijjaniyya Maulud Venue
The Kano State Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, has strongly criticized the actions of security agencies who blocked the venue for the National Tijjaniyya Maulud. In a press conference held today, the Commissioner expressed deep concern over what he described as an “unnecessary and unjustified” move, asserting that there has been no reported security threat in the state to warrant such measures.
Addressing members of the press, Comrade Waiya reaffirmed Kano State’s commitment to religious harmony and the promotion of peaceful activities. “Kano has always been a historical center of Islamic scholarship and religious harmony. We remain steadfast in upholding activities that foster unity and spiritual growth,” he stated.
The Commissioner clarified that the National Tijjaniyya Maulud, which has been celebrated annually for the past 39 years, is a legitimate religious event organized by a registered body. He emphasized that the event is scheduled to take place tomorrow, Saturday, 25th January 2025, at the Kofar Mata Stadium, as originally planned.
“The presence of security operatives at the venue is not only unwarranted but also unacceptable. It infringes upon the citizens’ right to lawful assembly and religious freedom, which are fundamental rights enshrined in our constitution,” Comrade Waiya declared.
He called on the Federal Government to immediately withdraw the security agencies from the venue, stressing that the Kofar Mata Stadium is the property of the Kano State Government. “There is no justification for any external force to interfere in a peaceful and lawful religious gathering,” he said.
Reassuring attendees, the Commissioner urged all participants, including guests from across Nigeria and beyond, to remain calm and steadfast in their commitment to the event. “The Maulud will hold successfully, In Shaa Allah,” he affirmed.
Kano State, widely regarded as a symbol of peace and religious tolerance, will not tolerate any form of intimidation or undue interference, Comrade Waiya warned. He reiterated the state’s dedication to ensuring that the rights of its people to religious freedom and peaceful assembly are upheld.
As preparations continue for the Maulud, the Commissioner extended his gratitude to all guests for their unwavering support and commitment to the Tijjaniyya Sufi Order’s values of peace and spirituality.
