Kano Govt Declares Thursday Public Holiday to Mark Islamic New Year

The Kano State Government has declared Thursday, June 26, 2025, as a public holiday in observance of the Islamic New Year, 1447 AH.

This was announced in a statement signed by the Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, on Wednesday, June 25.

Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf congratulated Muslims across the state and beyond for witnessing the new Islamic year, which begins with the month of Muharram—the first in the Islamic lunar calendar.

He urged the Muslim Ummah and citizens of Kano State to reflect on their deeds over the past year and to use the occasion to offer prayers for peace, unity, and prosperity in the state and the country at large.

The governor also reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to improving the standard of living of the people through transparent, inclusive, and people-centered governance.
