Kano Launches Service Delivery Monitoring System to Boost Routine Immunization
The Kano State Primary Health Care Management Board (KSPHCMB) has introduced a new Service Delivery Monitoring (SDM) system aimed at strengthening routine immunization across the state.
The initiative, launched on Tuesday in Kano, is designed to improve coverage, reduce the number of zero-dose children, and ensure greater accountability in immunization delivery. The system will track and monitor service delivery across both fixed and outreach sessions.
Speaking at the event, the Director General of KSPHCMB, Professor Salisu Ahmad Ibrahim, said the board is determined to put in place the right structures and resources to improve maternal and child health. He assured stakeholders that funding would be made available to support routine immunization outreach, while also emphasizing the need to review micro plans to enhance efficiency.
“We are committed to strengthening accountability mechanisms that will guarantee transparency and measurable results,” Ibrahim said.
The Project Director at Acasus, Dr. Folake Oni, praised the state government for its leadership. She expressed optimism that the number of children who have never received any vaccine would drop significantly within four months.
The initiative is being implemented in partnership with Acasus and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, alongside several development partners including CHAI, WHO, UNICEF, Corona Management Systems, Datharm, McKing, New Incentives, and Save the Children.
Key stakeholders at the launch included the Director of Disease Control and Epidemiology, Zonal Directors, Primary Health Coordinators, and Routine Immunization Focal Persons.
Stakeholders expressed confidence that with the renewed focus on accountability and collaboration, Kano will continue to make progress in expanding immunization coverage and improving primary health care delivery.
