Kano Lawmaker Sagir Koki Resigns from NNPP Citing Internal Crisis
By Mustapha Salisu
The member representing Kano Municipal Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Engr. Sagir Ibrahim Koki, has announced his resignation from the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), attributing his decision to lingering internal crises within the party’s national leadership.
In a letter dated November 11, 2025, and addressed to the Ward Chairperson of Zaitawa Ward, Kano Municipal, Koki said his decision was guided by Section 40 of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended) and Article 7.1 of the NNPP Constitution.
He stated that the crisis at the party’s center has made it “difficult, if not impossible,” for him to effectively discharge his duties and continue representing the good people of Kano Municipal in the House of Representatives.
“My decision to exit the NNPP becomes necessary because the internal crisis in the party leadership at the centre has made it difficult, if not impossible, for me to continue discharging my duties and provide my people, the good people of Kano Municipal, with the desired representation in the House of Representatives,” the letter read in part.
Koki, who also serves as the Deputy Chairman of the House Committee on Petroleum Resources (Midstream), expressed appreciation to the NNPP for the opportunity to serve under its platform, acknowledging the trust, support, and experience he gained during his tenure.
He further extended gratitude to the party leadership and members at all levels, pledging his continued commitment to serving his constituents.
As of the time of this report, it remains unclear which political party Koki will join next.
