The Kano State Ministry of Lands and Physical Planning says it has so far recertified over 2,000 Certificates of Occupancy under its Recertification of Titled Documents programme.
The state Commissioner of Lands and Physical Planning, Alhaji AbdulJabbar Umar, disclosed this while interacting with newsmen in Kano on Friday.
“Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf officially flagged off the recertification of titled documents in Kano State on 25th November, 2024, and ever since, we have recertified over 2,000 CofOs and we are still counting.
“We have equally begun the processing of Systematic Land Title Registration (SLTR) documents, so as to be giving regular Cofos,” Umar said.
He also announced that the ministry had so far received over one million “distinct recertification related interactions covering everything from conversion to name change and actual recertification applications” from citizens of the state since December 18,2024 when they were called upon to recertify their land titled documents.
He stated that the January 31,2025 deadline for the recertification of the titled documents stands.
The commissioner, therefore, urged all those that had yet recertify their documents to do so before the deadline, in order to protect and secure their land related properties.
“We strongly encourage everyone to hurry and recertify their title documents or process the new title documents before the 31st of January 2025, to avoid any unpleasant experience.
“It is vital to mention the tremendous effort being made to begin Sectional Titling in the State, which is set to begin anytime from now.
“This will ease the ownership of businesses in conglomerates as well as in Housing estates, Plazas, Block of Flats and Markets, and will also enhance the IGR of the State,” he added.
