The Chairman of the Kano Online Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Abubakar Abdulkadir Dangambo, has received the report of the chapel’s membership screening committee and commended the panel for conducting its assignment with fairness, orderliness and transparency.
Dangambo gave the commendation while formally receiving the report, noting that the committee was constituted to help sanitize the journalism profession and ensure that applicants seeking membership meet the required professional standards.
He explained that the formation of the committee became necessary due to the increasing number of online media practitioners and social media influencers applying to join the chapel.
According to him, the panel carefully applied the provisions of the Nigeria Union of Journalists constitution and other relevant guidelines in screening applicants.
Dangambo said the process was designed to ensure that only qualified individuals are admitted in line with the union’s procedures and ethical standards.
He added that the exercise would strengthen professionalism among online media practitioners in Kano State and help preserve the credibility of journalism in the digital space.
Presenting the report, the Chairman of the Membership Screening Committee, Aliyu Mudi Suleiman, said the panel carried out a thorough review of the credentials submitted by applicants.
He explained that the committee examined documents including Corporate Affairs Commission registration certificates, educational qualifications and other relevant requirements.
Suleiman disclosed that out of the 46 applicants screened, 31 were approved, while seven were placed on hold pending further review.
He added that eight applicants were not approved after failing to meet some of the conditions outlined in the union’s constitutional provisions.
The committee chairman also said the panel submitted recommendations to the chapel leadership on measures that could improve the process of admitting new members in the future.
