The Kano State Police Command has arrested three principal suspects in connection with the gruesome murder of a housewife and her six children at Dorayi Chiranchi Quarters in Kano.
The arrest followed the directive of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, and was executed through intelligence-led operations under the supervision of the Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori.
According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, the suspects — identified as Umar Auwalu (23), Isyaku Yakubu, also known as Chebe (40), and Yakubu Abdulaziz, also known as Wawo (21) — were apprehended during a sting operation that lasted from 10 p.m. on January 17 to 4 a.m. on January 18, 2026.
Police investigations revealed that the ring leader, Umar Auwalu, a nephew to the deceased, confessed to committing the crime. He also admitted that the same group had been involved in several past killings, including the murder and burning of two housewives at Tudun Yola Quarters, Kano.
Items recovered from the suspects include four blood-stained clothes, two mobile phones belonging to the deceased, a cutlass, a club (Gora), some cash, and other dangerous weapons.
While investigation continues, the Command commended the swift response of its operatives and expressed appreciation to members of the public for their support, cooperation, and prayers.
The Police assured residents of its unwavering commitment to ensuring justice and maintaining peace across the state.
