Kano Police Debunks Fake News of Ethnic Attack, Assures Public of Peaceful Atmosphere
The Kano State Police Command has dismissed reports circulating on social media alleging a violent ethnic attack in the state, describing them as false and aimed at inciting public disorder.
In a press statement released on Saturday, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, debunked claims that an 18-seater bus conveying Igbo passengers was set ablaze in Kano, as well as the rumor that an Igbo man had been killed in a reprisal attack. The Command emphasized that these reports were fabricated and have been discredited by community leaders and stakeholders.
“The state remains calm and peaceful. These malicious reports are designed to stir fear and tension among residents,” the statement read.
The police assured residents that sufficient security measures are in place to protect lives and property across the state. Citizens were encouraged to carry on with their daily activities without fear.
The Command praised the Kano State Government, residents, and community leaders for their continued cooperation and swift response in countering misinformation. Their joint efforts, according to the Command, have been key in sustaining peace and unity.
While commending the public, the Command also issued a stern warning against the spread of fake news, hate speech, and inciteful messages that could destabilize the state.
“We urge everyone to remain vigilant and report any suspicious individuals or activities to the nearest police station or through the following hotlines: 08032419754, 08123821575, or 09029292926,” the police stated.
The Command reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring the continued peace and security of Kano State.
