Kano Repentant Thugs Get Empowerment Boost From AMG Foundation and Community Policing

In a move aimed at promoting self-reliance among repentant thugs in Kano, the AMG foundation, led by Dr. Aminu Magashi Garba, has pledged to equip 100 individuals with phone repair skills.

This commitment was announced during an Iftar gathering that brought together the Kano Commissioner of Police, CP Muhammad Husaini Gumel, government officials, and Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs).

Dr. Magashi emphasized the importance of empowering youth, stating, “The Youth are the leaders of today and tomorrow.” He commended the efforts of the Youth Society for the Prevention of Infectious Diseases and Social Vices (YOSPIS) in collaborating with the Kano police to create a conducive environment for reformed youth.

The Iftar event also featured a friendly football match between the police and the reformed youth, generating positive national attention for the initiative.

While highlighting Kano’s position as a state with relatively lower insecurity challenges within the Northern region, CP Gumel acknowledged the need for increased government intervention in supporting reformed youths (often referred to as “Yan Daba”).

He commended the police force’s community-oriented approach towards tackling thuggery activities in Kano.

Adding to the momentum, S.A. to the Kano State Governor on Community Policing, Amb. Maimuna Idris, announced the government’s plan to empower an initial 100 repentant thugs.

Further support is expected from Kano State Chairman Beruit Engr Abubakar Usman Ahmad.
