Kano Set to Host Maiden Edition of KANFEST 2025, Grand Celebration of Arts, Culture

The Kano State Government has announced the maiden edition of KANFEST (Kalankuwa), a cultural and arts festival designed to showcase the state’s rich heritage, creativity, and identity to the world.
The festival, which is scheduled to hold from October 25th to 27th, 2025, at the Kano Trade Fair Complex, is being organized through the Ministry of Culture and Tourism under the coordination of His Excellency, the Deputy Governor of Kano State, Comrade Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo.
According to a statement signed by the Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, KANFEST 2025 is themed “Preserving the Past, Inspiring the Future.” The festival aims to reaffirm the state government’s commitment to preserving cultural values, promoting creative innovation, and bridging the past with the future through cultural expression.
“The people of Kano are proud custodians of history, and during these three days, history will come alive,” the statement read. “KANFEST is more than just entertainment — it is a cultural rebirth, honouring our heritage and empowering the future. Culture is our identity, and it must be celebrated.”
Highlights of the festival will include traditional wrestling, Majema Tanning Artistry, Dukawa Leather Craftsmanship, and the ‘All Tribes, One Stage’ performance, which symbolizes unity in diversity. Visitors will also experience the best of Kano’s art, music, cuisine, and craftsmanship.
The Commissioner noted that the event would serve as a platform for peacebuilding, unity, tourism, and economic growth, while also creating new opportunities for investment in cultural industries.
“As we open our doors to the world, we invite everyone within and outside Kano to join this cultural movement,” Waiya stated. “The world is coming to Kano through culture.”
KANFEST 2025 is expected to attract artists, cultural groups, investors, and visitors from across Nigeria and beyond, making Kano once again a hub of cultural excellence and creativity.
