Kano State Can Be Hub for Cassava Production – Hajiya Halima

By Abdullahi Alhassan

Hajiya Halima Zubairu Danbatta, former State House of Assembly candidate and Chairperson of the Nigerian Cassava Farmers Growers Association, Kano State Chapter, has emphasized the strategic role of cassava production in achieving food security and economic growth in Nigeria.

Speaking during a visit to cassava seedling banks in Gwarzo Local Government Area of Kano State, Hajiya Halima underscored the crop’s potential to generate income, create jobs, and reduce youth restiveness.

“Cassava production can be a game-changer for our economy,” she said. “If properly supported, it will not only boost food security but also empower youths and women.”

She called on the government to provide soft loans and modern mechanized equipment to enhance productivity. “With the right tools and resources, farmers can significantly increase their yield and improve the quality of cassava products,” she noted.

Highlighting the crucial role of women, Hajiya Halima stressed the need for inclusive policies that empower female farmers. “Women are the backbone of our agricultural workforce. Their participation in cassava production is essential for ensuring food security,” she stated.

She further noted that cassava, a versatile crop, holds vast potential for job creation and economic expansion, particularly through export opportunities. “We must tap into this potential by creating an enabling environment for farmers to thrive.”

Hajiya Halima commended the Kano State Government for its commitment to promoting cassava production, urging stakeholders to sustain the momentum. “With the right policies, Kano can become a leading hub for cassava production in Nigeria.”

She also identified key challenges facing farmers, including limited access to financing and equipment, and urged authorities to address these gaps to unlock the sector’s full potential.

“Cassava production must be prioritized as a catalyst for economic growth and national development,” she concluded.
