Kano State declares Wednesday public holiday
The Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has declared today, Wednesday, October 4, 2023, as a public holiday in commemoration of the birth of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).
In a statement signed by the state’s Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Baba Halilu Dantiye, on Tuesday, the governor urged the people of the state to use the occasion to reflect on the teachings of the Prophet Muhammad and imbibe them in their daily affairs.
“His Excellency, the Governor, also urged the people to pray fervently for peace and prosperity to reign in Kano and Nigeria at large.
“He prayed to Allah to see us through this tough period and bless us with bumper harvests in this rainy season and the coming dry farming season,” the statement stated.
Prime Time News reports that the State is already awash with celebrations in commemoration of the birth of the Prophet (PBUH) featuring readings from the Holy Qur’an and the sayings of the Prophet(Hadith), among others.
The celebrations,known as TAKUTAHA, also include wearing of new clothes(especially by children), as well as slaughtering of chicken used to cook sumptuous meals which are eaten and shared among fellow Muslim faithful, friends and neighbours.
