Kano State, ECN Partner to Boost Clean Energy and Innovation
The Kano State Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation has entered into a strategic partnership with the Energy Commission of Nigeria (ECN) to fast-track the adoption of clean energy solutions and promote innovation-driven development across the state.
Led by the Commissioner, Dr. Yusuf KofarMata, a delegation from the ministry paid a high-level technical visit to the ECN headquarters in Abuja, where they were received by the Commission’s Director-General, Dr. Abdullahi Mustapha.
Describing the visit as a “family reunion,” Dr. Mustapha reflected on his academic roots at the Kano University of Science and Technology, Wudil — now Aliko Dangote University of Science and Technology — and acknowledged the role of the institution and Senator Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso in shaping his professional journey.
Discussions during the meeting focused on several key areas of collaboration, including the solarization of public infrastructure such as hospitals and universities, energy audits, solar street lighting, off-grid water systems, and the formulation of a comprehensive energy policy and long-term master plan for Kano State.
Dr. KofarMata conveyed the goodwill of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf and reiterated the state’s commitment to leveraging energy innovation for economic and social transformation. He also proposed the establishment of an ECN Zonal Office in Kano, a move that was well received by the Commission.
A joint technical committee is set to be established immediately to oversee the implementation of the agreed priorities.
The visit marks a significant step toward aligning Kano’s energy goals with national policies, with science and technology positioned as catalysts for inclusive and sustainable growth.
