Kano State inaugurates blood transfusion committee
The Kano State Ministry of Health has inaugurated a Technical Working Committee on Blood Transfusion to address gaps and improve the safety of blood transfusion services in the state.
This development was announced in a statement issued by the ministry’s Information Officer, Ibrahim Abdullahi.
According to the statement, the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Abubakar Labaran Yusuf, who inaugurated the committee, emphasized the importance of ensuring safe blood transfusion practices in Kano.
“The genesis of forming this committee is for the safety of blood transfusion in the state. Being part of such a historic committee is something that will be part of the history of Kano State,” Dr. Labaran said.
He stated that the selection of members of the committee was done based on competency.
He expressed confidence in the selected members and charged them to deliver on their mandate.
Dr. Labaran acknowledged Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf for his support of healthcare initiatives in the state, which he described as pivotal to the committee’s formation.
The committee, chaired by Dr. Musbahu Rabi’u, Director of Medical Services at the Hospitals Management Board, is tasked with providing technical expertise, developing and implementing blood transfusion policies, and ensuring collaboration among stakeholders, including healthcare providers and regulatory bodies.
Dr. Rabi’u, in his remarks, assured the commissioner of the committee’s commitment to fulfilling its responsibilities.
“We will do our best to ensure justice is done to this task entrusted to us,” he said.
The committee includes representatives from key health institutions and regulatory agencies, as well as experts from academia and partners.
Dr. Hauwa Ibrahim, a Consultant Haematologist, will serve as the committee’s secretary.
The statement further revealed that the committee is also authorized to co-opt additional stakeholders when necessary in order to ensure its activities align with the goal of improving blood transfusion services in Kano State.
