Kano State Deputy Governor, Comrade Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, announced on Monday that Kano State has been recognized nationwide for offering the most affordable education.
The Deputy Governor, who also serves as the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, made this statement while commissioning various projects at the Tarauni Local Government Secretariat under the leadership of Interim Caretaker Committee Chairman, Hon. Abdullahi Ibrahim Bashir (MaiKano).
He also revealed that pregnant women in Tarauni LGA will receive PHC cards, allowing them access to free medications, especially during the current high prevalence of malaria. This initiative is part of the broader distribution of drugs purchased by Tarauni LGA for all hospitals within the council.
Speaking earlier, Interim Caretaker Committee Chairman, Hon. Abdullahi Ibrahim Bashir (MaiKano), highlighted the significance of the event, marking the commissioning of several projects completed during his 150 days in office.
These projects include the provision of vehicles and motorcycles for security agencies, renovation of the LGA secretariat and the chairman’s office, and repairs to the Primary Health Care Van and refuse evacuation tricycles. Additionally, the construction of an office block for the Works and Housing Department was completed.
Other initiatives included the issuance of appointment letters to 75 BESDA teachers, the distribution of 2,000 mats and 2,000 kettles to various Islamiyya and Tsangaya schools, as well as five daily prayer mosques. Essential drugs were supplied to Tarauni hospitals, and over 130 solar street lights were installed across the LGA.
The local government also ensured a constant supply of water and electricity at the secretariat, cleared backlogs of staff allowances, and installed CCTV cameras for effective security monitoring.
Maikano further announced the construction of a health post at Karkasara, the renovation of five daily prayer mosques, and the establishment of a monthly progress report system to ensure transparency and accountability in public spending. These reports will be sent to the Commissioner’s office to provide updates and seek guidance.
He expressed his gratitude to Governor Yusuf and Deputy Governor Aminu Abdussalam for their consistent support, as well as to the people of Tarauni LGA for their cooperation.
Maikano assured that the NNPP-led government in Kano State would fulfill its promises and urged residents to seek clarification on any issues related to government proceedings.
