Kano State Task Force Cracks Down on Thuggery, Drug Abuse, Arrests 53 Suspects
The Kano State Joint Task Force Committee on Peace Restoration and Youth Rehabilitation has intensified efforts to combat thuggery and substance abuse, leading to the arrest of 53 suspects in a series of mass operations across the state.
The operations, which took place between March 13 and 14, were conducted in areas notorious for criminal activities, including Yakasai, Kofar Mata, Zango, Zage, Zanzado, Rimi Market, Shahuchi Park, Kano Line, Sharada, Ja’en, and Dan Agundi. The raids were led by the committee chairman, Dr. Yusuf Ibrahim Kofar Mata, and targeted criminal hideouts and drug black spots.
Seized Items and Criminal Activities
During the intelligence-led crackdown, security operatives recovered:
Large quantities of cannabis sativa (Wiwi), including three parcels and 50 wraps.
Various illicit substances such as codeine syrup, rubber solution, “suck and die” chemicals, and 105 suspected exol tablets.
Weapons including five cutlasses, two scissors, and two clubs (Gora).
Suspected charms and ritualistic items.
The Task Force also discovered a significant quantity of cannabis sativa at a well-known drug den in Zanzado. Additionally, a delivery vehicle and five cattle, allegedly linked to a notorious drug dealer, were confiscated.
Legal Action and Government’s Commitment
According to the Committee’s Public Relations Officer, Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, all suspects will be prosecuted once investigations are concluded.
Officials say the operation marks a major breakthrough in the fight against crime in Kano, reflecting the government’s unwavering commitment to restoring peace and ensuring a drug-free society.
The Joint Task Force, comprising security agencies and government officials, has vowed to sustain its efforts in cleansing Kano’s streets of criminal elements and safeguarding the well-being of residents.
