Kano Transport Commissioner Withdraws Suretyship in Federal Court Drug Case
The Kano State Commissioner for Transportation, Alhaji Ibrahim Namadi, has formally withdrawn his suretyship in an ongoing criminal case before the Federal High Court, Kano.
The case, Federal Republic of Nigeria vs. Sulaiman Aminu (Charge No. FHC/KN/CR/93/2025), involves allegations of drug-related offences. Alhaji Namadi had earlier stood as a surety for the defendant but has now rescinded his role through a letter submitted to the Deputy Registrar of the court.
This is contained in statement Signed by Abdullatif Auta Media Aide to commissioner Ibrahim Namadi on Friday.
In the letter, the Commissioner cited personal reasons and the need to safeguard his integrity and the dignity of his office as a public official. He explained that his initial decision to stand as surety was based on personal discretion, motivated by long-standing family ties and humanitarian considerations.
Namadi stressed that his involvement should not be interpreted as support for any drug-related activity or as an endorsement of the alleged crime.
“I remain loyal to His Excellency, the Governor of Kano State, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, the State Executive Council, and the people of Kano State,” he stated, reaffirming his commitment to government policies aimed at combating drug abuse and enhancing public safety.
The Commissioner also expressed his willingness to provide further clarification to the court if required.
The development adds a new dimension to the high-profile case and underscores the sensitivity surrounding public officials’ involvement in judicial matters.
