KANSIEC Ad hoc Staff Forum Urges ICPC to Stay Neutral in Political Matters

By Mustapha Salisu

The forum of ad hoc staff who conducted the local government elections in the
state has called on the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related
Offences Commission (ICPC) to distance itself from political interference in the
discharge of its duties.

The chairman of the forum, Auwal Shuaibu, made this known during an
emergency press conference organized by the forum in the Federal Capital
Territory, Abuja.

Auwal Shuaibu stated that they arrived in Abuja following a statement issued
by the ICPC regarding the planned arraignment of the Chairman of the Kano
State Independent Electoral Commission (KANSIEC), Professor Sani Lawan
Malumfashi, along with two staff members of the commission, in court on
Monday, June 21, 2025.

The forum accused some opposition politicians of orchestrating the situation to
tarnish the image of the commission’s chairman, following their failed attempts
to disrupt the election process.

The forum described the 2024 Local Government Election organized by KANSIEC
as fair and transparent, noting that the commission publicly paid the ad hoc
staff in order to ensure everyone received their rightful dues.

In conclusion, the forum urged the ICPC to conduct a fair investigation and to
refrain from allowing political interference in its operations.
