Kasham Hosts Para Soccer Competition for Persons with Special Needs in Kano

In observance of the World Day Against Trafficking in Persons, the Kasham Girls, Women, Youth and Community Development Network (KGWYCDN) organized a para soccer competition for persons with special needs in Kano.

The event took place yesterday at the Sani Abacha Indoor Stadium in partnership with the French Embassy and the International Organization for Migration (IOM).

Mrs. Dinatu Dama Maji, Executive Director of Kasham, explained the motivation behind hosting the game “Persons with special needs and children are often sidelined in discussions about trafficking and illegal migration, yet they are the most vulnerable.”

According to her, recent statistics from the past five to six months show an increase in trafficking cases involving persons with disabilities and children.

“It is necessary for the concerned authorities to consider them in issues of trafficking and illegal migration,” Dinatu stressed.

Ketty Regis from the French Embassy highlighted their collaboration with several CSOs, gender inclusion groups, and organizations for persons with disabilities. She noted that this is not the first time they have hosted para soccer games in Kano.

“The games are relevant because the Paris Olympics just opened a few days ago, and the Paralympics will begin at the end of August,” Ketty explained.

She added that they plan to support various sports, including football, basketball, handball, and taekwondo.
