Katsina Sets Date for Local Government Elections in 2025
The Katsina State Independent Electoral Commission (KTSIEC) has officially announced that the local government elections for the state are scheduled for February 15, 2025.
The announcement was made by the Chairman of KTSIEC, Lawal Faskari, during a press conference held in Katsina, attended by representatives from political parties and state security operatives.
The council election, in accordance with relevant electoral laws, will witness the participation of 3,187,988 electorates, based on the turnout during a similar exercise on April 11, 2022.
The forthcoming election aims to elect 34 chairmen and 361 councillors across the 34 local government areas of Katsina State.
Faskari, addressing the media, stated, “In compliance with Section 197 of the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (FRN) as amended and other relevant laws, I officially announce that Saturday, 15th February 2025, has been slated to conduct local government elections in the state for chairmanship and councillorship.”
The notice period for the council election spans from February 14, 2024, to February 15, 2025, adhering to the 365-day requirement as stipulated in Section 28 of the Electoral Act 2022, as amended.
Faskari emphasized that all interested and qualified candidates from registered political parties are eligible to contest, highlighting that only candidates sponsored by registered political parties will be permitted to participate.
He urged stakeholders, particularly political parties, to comply with the laws and guidelines governing the election’s conduct in the state.
