KEPA Applauds Gov. Sani as Kaduna Prepares for Statewide Clean-Up Exercise
By Abdullahi Alhassan, Kaduna
The Acting General Manager of the Kaduna State Environmental Protection Agency (KEPA), Mr. Yahaya Victor, has commended Governor Uba Sani for reintroducing the end-of-month environmental sanitation exercise across the state.
Speaking during a mock sanitation exercise in Kaduna metropolis, Mr. Victor explained that the initiative would go a long way in ensuring a clean, safe, and sustainable environment essential for human health and the preservation of the ecosystem.
He noted that the monthly sanitation exercise—scheduled to officially commence in November 2025—will involve a complete restriction of movement and enforcement of penalties for defaulters.
According to him, “We have gone round key areas across the city to sensitize residents on the need to prepare for the monthly environmental sanitation exercise. We took off from our corporate headquarters along Kachia Road with the sensitization message to Gonin-Gora, a gateway to the city from the South, stopping over at strategic points such as Command Junction and NNPC Junction to enlighten motorists and passersby on the return of the cleaning exercise and its benefits.”
Mr. Victor emphasized that the sanitation exercise will hold on the last Saturday of every month, between 7 a.m. and 10 a.m., during which residents are expected to remain at home to clean their surroundings.
He further explained that the directive to reinstate the sanitation exercise was issued by Governor Uba Sani through the State Commissioner for Environment and will be implemented in collaboration with all relevant stakeholders, including members of the media whose roles in public enlightenment and mobilization are critical.
The KEPA boss added that the exercise will be conducted across all 23 Local Government Areas of the state, with strict monitoring to ensure full compliance.
While lamenting the persistent indiscriminate disposal of waste in waterways and other unauthorized areas, Mr. Victor urged residents to cooperate with the government by participating fully in the exercise when it takes effect next month.
