KIRS welcomes new chairman
Dr. Zaid Abubakar has assumed the role of Executive Chairman of the Kano State Internal Revenue Service, KIRS.
Recall that Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf had last week approved the appointment of Dr. Zaid Abubakar as the new Executive Chairman.
The ED while delivering his inaugural speech on Monday at the service expressed his gratitude.
“I stand before you today with a profound sense of honor and responsibility as I assume this role. It is with great humility that I step into this esteemed position, fully aware of the trust placed in me by the Executive Governor, the government, and people of Kano State,” he said.
He commended his predecessor for exemplary leadership and pledged to build upon the progress made in revenue generation and tax administration.
“Our success as a revenue service is contingent upon the support and collaboration of our stakeholders.
“One of our primary mandates is to drive revenue growth for the state through efficient tax collection and administration.
“We must be vigilant in identifying and addressing revenue leakages within our tax system. This requires strengthening our enforcement mechanisms, enhancing internal controls, and collaborating with relevant stakeholders to plug loopholes and prevent tax evasion and avoidance, ”he said
According to him, the service must adopt a proactive approach to revenue generation, leveraging data analytics, technology, and innovative strategies to identify untapped revenue sources and maximize collection efforts.
Dr. Abubakar outlined key strategies to drive revenue growth.
“Some of the strategies include leveraging technology, ensuring fairness and transparency in tax collection, and combating tax evasion.
He emphasized the commitment to providing exceptional service to taxpayers through training and capacity building for staff and comprehensive public sensitization campaigns.
“Our greatest asset is our dedicated team of staff. We will prioritize their welfare, well-being, and professional development and create a conducive work
environment that fosters employee morale, satisfaction, and growth opportunities.
“I call upon each member of our team to rededicate themselves to our mission and vision. Let us approach our work with passion, dedication, and a relentless commitment.
