…As Karaye Lawmaker Leads the Delegation, Reaffirms Government’s Commitment to Strengthening Primary Health Facilities in Kano

Hon. Ahmad Ibrahim Karaye, Member representing Karaye Constituency at the Kano State House of Assembly, has declared that the Kano State Government is committed to addressing the challenges facing Primary Health Care (PHC) and Secondary Health Facilities (SHF).
The lawmaker made this known on Wednesday when he led a legislative delegation to Ajingi Cottage Hospital and Chula Primary Health Clinic in Ajingi Local Government Area as part of a joint accountability spot check.
PRIME TIME NEWS reports that the exercise, supported by EngenderHealth, Legislative Initiative for Sustainable Development (LISDEL) and the International Society of Media in Public Health (ISMPH) was aimed at enhancing transparency, accountability, and the quality of healthcare delivery in Kano State.

Hon. Karaye explained that the committee was formed by the Speaker of the House to assess hospitals and health centers across local governments, identify their challenges, and recommend improvements.
At the Ajingi General Hospital, he reported that the facility was in relatively good condition with only minor issues, but stressed the need to urgently address power instability, staff shortages, and structural renovations.
During the visit to Chula Health Clinic, Karaye observed more pressing challenges, particularly inadequate water supply and lack of proper staff accommodation. Despite these hurdles, he praised the dedication of the health workers, describing the in-charge as intelligent and efficient in managing the limited resources available.
“We are committed to ensuring these issues are addressed. The committee will submit its findings to the governor, and we are confident that prompt action will follow,” Karaye assured.

He emphasized that the planned interventions would prioritize the provision of water supply to Chula Primary Health Center, while Ajingi General Hospital would benefit from improvements in power, staffing, and infrastructure.
The lawmaker further reaffirmed the Assembly’s commitment to improving healthcare delivery across the state, urging health workers to remain vigilant, efficient, and dedicated in service delivery.
He assured communities that their challenges would not be overlooked and that the governor’s intervention would bring lasting changes to the affected facilities.
PRIME TIME NEWS reports that, community residents who reacted during the spotcheck inclue, Murjanatu Auwalu who praised the services rendered by the health officials, commending them for discharging their duties diligently and without harassment.
“All the drugs prescribed last week for my son, Auwalu Hamza, who had not eaten for five days, were provided. After being carefully examined and given the prescribed medication, he immediately regained his appetite and requested for food” She recalled.
Similarly, in Chula, Shamsiya Sani expressed satisfaction with the quality of services offered to patients, describing them as highly commendable. She, however, noted that the hospital still faces pressing challenges and called on the government to intervene, particularly in providing a labour ward, a borehole, and addressing other essential needs.
