KNSG Appoints New Provost of College of Nursing and Midwifery
In continued commitment to repositioning the College of Nursing and Midwifery to function optimally and efficiently, the Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf has approved the appointment of Bara’atu Gwadabe as the new Provost of the college.
The Commissioner for Health, Dr. Abubakar Labaran Yusuf disclosed this in a press release issued from the Public Relations Unit of the ministry and made available to media outfits.
The Commissioner said that the appointment is with immediate effect and was based on the tract records of service, experience and dedication of Bara’atu Gwadabe in various capacities she held in the state civil service especially in the health sector.
Dr. Labaran enjoined her to work assiduously to justify the confidence reposed on her and put in her efforts towards transforming the health educational institutions and the entire health sector of the state at large, embark upon by His Excellency.
Born in 1967 in Galadanchi quarters of Kano state, Bara’atu Gwadabe underwent her primary and post primary education all in Kano state, between 1976 and 1985.
In 1987, she gets enrolled into the School of Midwifery. Upon completion, she joined School of Nursing in 2004 and completed in 2006.
The new Provost was employed by the Kano State Hospitals Management Board as Nursing Officer in 1990 and worked in various facilities including Fuskar Yamma Primary Health Centre, Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital, Hasiya Bayero Paediatric Hospital, Sabo Bakinzuwo Maternity Hospital, Nuhu Bamalli Maternity Hospital, etc.
Passionate to teaching, in 2010 she went to Kaduna Polytechnic to study nursing education and completed in 2014. She wasn’t completed on time as a result of rampant strikes. Immediately upon completion, she moved to Maryam Abacha American University, Maradi, Niger Republic, to study B.sc Nursing.
After she returned, she was deployed to the clinical instruction unit of School of Nursing to oversee affairs of the students.
Until her appointment, the Bara’atu Gwadabe was the Director School of Post Basic Midwifery Gezawa, the position she holds since 2018.
