Kogi: PDP suspends Melaye over alleged misconduct

The Kogi State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP has officially suspended former Senator Dino Melaye for his alleged involvement in anti-party activities.

The decision was made following a review by the party’s Ward Executive Committee in Ayetoro/Iluagba Ward 1.

In a statement dated September 12, 2024, and signed by Ward Chairman Abayomi Osamika and Secretary Yodson Dayo, the PDP Ward Committee explained that Melaye was invited to appear before a disciplinary panel on August 20, 2024, to address accusations of misconduct.

However, his failure to respond to the invitation was deemed “a gross disrespect to the party and its leadership.”

The committee further explained that Melaye’s actions violated the PDP constitution.

“His conduct has brought embarrassment and disrepute to the party, and his continued membership is no longer tenable.”

Citing Article 59(1) of the PDP constitution, the party emphasized that the suspension was in line with the Ward Exco’s authority to take disciplinary action against erring members.

As a result, they concluded that Melaye’s suspension from the party was effective immediately.

The resolution further called on all party members to remain committed to the principles of party discipline and loyalty as the PDP works toward strengthening unity and electoral success.
