Kunchi/Tsanyawa: APC candidate emerges winner as Tribunal sacks NNPP Reps

By Ibrahim Hamisu, Kano

In a recent decision by the National/State House of Assembly Election Petition Tribunal in Kano, Engr. Sani Bala Tsanyawa of the APC has been confirmed as the rightful winner of the Kunchi/Tsanyawa Federal House Representatives Election, which took place on February 25th, 2023.

This ruling comes in response to the challenge raised by Abdullahi Safiyanu Muhammad of NNPP, who alleged irregularities and non-compliance with the Electoral Act, 2022.

Justice Flora Ngozi Azinge, the Chairperson of the Tribunal, stated that the testimony of the three witnesses presented by the petitioner lacked credibility, citing contradictions and discrepancies among them.

She emphasized that it was the petitioner’s responsibility not just to claim but to substantiate the allegations that the respondent did not secure the majority of the votes in the election.

Furthermore, Justice Azinge upheld the principle that those who make assertions must provide evidence to support their claims.

Consequently, the petition was dismissed for lacking merit, and all parties involved were instructed to bear their own costs.
