Gov. Abba Yusuf of Kano State alongside former Governor of the State, Sen. Rabiu Kwankwaso, on Wednesday attended the Janaza (Funeral) prayer of the late Managing Director of Kano State Refuse Management and Sanitation Board (REMASAB), Alhaji Ahmadu Haruna Zago.
The Janaza prayer which was led by the Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, was also attended by another former Governor of the state, Malam Ibrahim Shekarau, among thousands of other residents of the state.
The funeral prayer took place at 1 p.m. at the Emir’s palace.
Zago, popularly known as Dan Zago, passed on in the early hours of Thursday at the age of 74, after a protracted illness for which he was admitted at the Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital.
He is survived by four wives, 37 children and many grandchildren.
Governor Yusuf expressed deep sorrow over the loss, describing Alhaji Zago as a “dedicated public servant, a master political strategist, and a business mogul who played a key role in shaping the political landscape of Kano over the last 50 years.”
“Alhaji Ahmadu Haruna Zago was a unique politician with massive grassroots support who served in various capacities, including State Chairman of the defunct ANPP.
“He was also a Political Adviser to a former Kano State Governor, a Special Assistant to a former Speaker of the House of Representatives, and a board member of many private companies within and outside Kano State,” the governor said.
He extended his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family and the people of Kano, and prayed for Allah’s mercy upon his departed soul.
