By Yusuf A Yusuf, Damaturu

Senator Ahmed Ibrahim Lawan emerged as the highest-rated potential gubernatorial aspirant following a structured assessment at a One-Day Youth Organizations Summit in Yobe State.

The summit, themed “Youth Voices for a Progressive Yobe,” was convened by the Coalition of Yobe-East Progressive Youths to foster informed youth engagement ahead of the 2027 election. Hundreds of participants from youth associations, civil society, and community groups attended.

A central activity involved five independent groups using a 110-point scorecard to evaluate aspirants based on experience, integrity, vision, and development impact. Five aspirants were assessed, all from the All Progressives Congress (APC), though organizers stressed the non-partisan nature of the exercise.

Senator Ahmed Ibrahim Lawan (Zone C) achieved the highest overall performance, selected by all five groups and scoring an average above 90%. His scores ranged from 91 to 104.

Other aspirants’ results varied: Senator Ibrahim Mohammed Bomai (Zone B) scored between 38 and 85; Abubakar D. Aliyu (Zone B) scored 78 in one group; Kashim Musa Tumsa (Zone A) scored between 20 and 70; and Musa Mustapha (Zone A) scored 29 in one group.

Organizers, led by Coalition President Dr. Yerima Goni, reiterated the summit was not an endorsement but a framework for evidence-based leadership evaluation. However, participants noted the result aligns with previous public calls from the coalition urging Senator Lawan to contest.

The summit concluded with a call for sustained youth involvement in governance discourse, promoting the scorecard as a tool for informed political participation.
