Lawmaker Provides Free Medical Outreach to 100,000 Less Privileged in Kaduna

Over 100,000 less privileged individuals, including women and children, have benefited from a free medical outreach in eight Local Government Areas of the Southern Kaduna Senatorial District. This initiative, a Federal Government Constituency Intervention Project, was facilitated by Amos Gwamna, the Representative for Zango Kataf/Jaba Federal Constituency.
Speaking during the health programme and a visit to patients who had undergone surgeries at primary healthcare centres and the General Hospital in Kafanchan, Gwamna highlighted the need to address the chronic health challenges affecting the less privileged in the region.
For years, many residents of Southern Kaduna have struggled with untreated health issues due to financial constraints. To alleviate these challenges, Gwamna, who chairs the House Committee on Health Services, implemented the free medical outreach as part of his Constituency Intervention Project.
The programme provided various treatments, including eye surgeries for conditions like glaucoma and cataracts. Free reading glasses were distributed, and more complex surgical procedures were performed, addressing conditions such as fibroids, hernias, and appendicitis.
Dr. Livinus Yusuf, the leader of the surgical team, reported successful outcomes for all surgeries conducted and assured that all registered patients would receive care.
Beneficiaries expressed immense gratitude for the initiative. Samuel Audu, a former councilor of Ara Ward in Sanga Local Government Area, described it as a groundbreaking project in his community. He commended Gwamna for extending the gesture beyond his constituency to all eight local government areas of Southern Kaduna, praying for greater achievements for the lawmaker.
Another beneficiary, Dorcas Mohammed, shared her relief, noting that the programme had brought much-needed assistance to her family and others who had endured critical illnesses for years.
Gwamna also reiterated his commitment to improving healthcare infrastructure in the region. He highlighted his efforts during the 9th Assembly to sponsor a bill for the establishment of a Federal Medical Centre in Southern Kaduna. He emphasized the need for more primary healthcare centres and general hospitals, particularly in Sanga Local Government Area.
The Gwantu Traditional Council appealed for an upgrade of the 20-bed primary healthcare centre in Gwantu to a 100-bed general hospital to improve access to quality healthcare for rural dwellers.
