The New Nigeria Peoples Party(NNPP) in Kano State has given up to the end of August to all Caretaker Chairmen and Councillors in the 44 local governments wishing to contest in the forthcoming local government elections in the state to resign their appointments.
The Chairman of the party, Alhaji Hashimu Suleiman Dungurawa, gave the directive while addressing newsmen in Kano on Tuesday.
The Kano State Independent Electoral Commission(KANSIEC) had scheduled November 30 for the conduct of Chairmanship and Councillorship elections into the 44 local governments in the state.
Dungurawa said the directive was necessary to enable them to prepare well for the polls.
He then announced the party’s fees for nominations for the elections, stating that each Chairmanship aspirant would pay N500,000 for nomination form and N100,000 as fees for expression of interest, while those for Councillorship positions would pay N150,000 for nomination forms and N50,000 as expression of interest fees.
He said the party fixed the “moderate fees” considering the current economic hardships in the country.
He, however, endorsed the Electoral Commission’s fees put at N10 million for chairmanship and N5 million for councillorship, describing the charges as appropriate.
According to the chairman, persons contesting for those local government positions should be financially sound, demonstrating the ability to manage financial resources effectively.
On women participation in the forthcoming polls, Dungurawa said the party was encouraging its female members to partake in the elections.
