Lifting Fubara suspension ‘nothing to cheer about’ – Atiku slams Tinubu

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has criticised President Bola Tinubu over the lifting of the suspension placed on Rivers State Governor Simi Fubara and the State House of Assembly, saying the action was unconstitutional from the start.

In a post on X on Thursday, Atiku said the move was not worth celebrating because the suspension itself should never have happened.

“Lifting the suspension of Governor Simi Fubara is nothing to cheer about,” Atiku wrote.

“The suspension of the Rivers State Governor and the State House of Assembly was unconstitutional when it was done six months ago and is still illegal today.”

He insisted that President Tinubu had no authority to suspend a democratically elected governor and lawmakers.

“President Tinubu had no power to suspend a democratically elected governor and state lawmakers,” Atiku added.

According to him, what is happening in Rivers reflects a dictatorial approach by Tinubu’s government.
