LISDEL, Partners Host Post-election Stakeholders’ Policy Dialogue

The Legislative Initiative for Sustainable Development (LISDEL), in collaboration with the Kano State Civil Society Forum, Open Government Partnership, Universal Health Coverage Forum (UHC2023), Hasken Kano, and other stakeholders, has launched a post-election stakeholders’ policy dialogue forum to ensure the implementation of critical sectors reforms priorities in health, governance, education, and other areas.
The forum, which was held yesterday (Tuesday), at BON Hotel, Kano State, brought together 5 Honorable Commissioners (Health, Planning and Budget, Environment, Higher Education, and Special Duties) 2 Special Advisors and the Director General Research and Documentation Kano State, Civil Society Organizations, Community-Based Organizations and other stakeholders to review progress made on the Citizens Charter, Health Security Agenda, and Kano Developmental Tracker.
Giving his welcome remarks, Kano State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Abubakar Labaran Yusuf explained that the forum aimed at reviewing post-election commitments of the current administration “it is a good exercise that will remind the Government and people of the State what has been achieved so far and where needs to be improved”
Unbundling objectives of the workshop, LISDEL’s State Coordinator, Muhammad Shuaib said, the aim of the workshop was to follow up on the implementation of the Pre-election campaign commitments made by this administration during an organized policy dialogue with the then parties candidates including His Excellency the Executive Governor of Kano State.
“We were able to assess some progress achieved based on the developed Citizens Charter, Health Security Agenda and in line with this administration’s blue print. Advocate for more improvement in some areas and also collectively agreed to work together for the betterment of Kano State” Muhammad revealed.
Making a commitment, the Commissioner for Environment and Climate change, Alh. Nasiru Sule Garo asserted that adding climate change to the Ministry was one of the commitment of this administration. Adding that for passion to Join global trend of climate change activities.
“For the first time Kano participated in the United Nations Climate Change Council which was held in Dubai recently. I assure you will see an impact of that participation very soon” he noted.
He added that Kano has limited oxygen banks in the city, as such tree planting has been launched to gather oxygen as well as to activate gardens for people of Kano.
The State is closely working with UNICEF to ensure Kano is declared open defection Free.
Also committing, Commissioner for Health, Dr. Abubakar Labaran Yusuf asserted that the state human resource for health has been improved as no facility has reported absenteeism of doctor even at night.
He added that this administration response to Diphtheria outbreak was remarkable as number of cases have been reduced and some centres have been closed leaving those for severe cases only.
“The Governor has ordered for decentralisation, henceforth all diphtheria cases will be addressed at their locality. Counterpart funding has also improved” Labaran expressed.
“Other progress include improved health security, sanitised racketeering of admissions at health learning institutions, linking college of Nursing and Midwifery to Yusuf Maitama Sule University Kano” He added.
On his part the Commissioner for Budget and Planning, Alh. Musa Suleiman Shanono said governor Abba has adopted budget discipline, all of the expenditure are properly appropriated among other development.
Also speaking, Commissioner for Special Duties, Shehu Aliyu reminded CSOs that they were in Kano before and after elections and can testify efforts of governor Abba Kabir Yusuf towards fulfilling his campaign promises.
He added that Kano State Government is empowering her citizens to alleviate economic hardships bedeviling the country at large.
Commissioners however implored CSO’s to sustain the tempo of reminding the Government of her promise to the citizens for betterment of Kano citizens
