Livestock Minister Lauds Gombe’s Ultra-Modern Abattoir as Game-Changer

From Abubakar Rabilu, Gombe

The Minister of Livestock Development, Hon. Idi Mukhtar Maiha, has praised the groundbreaking efforts of Gombe State Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya in constructing a multi-billion-naira ultra-modern abattoir, describing it as a transformative project aligned with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, the minister highlighted the facility, spanning 184 hectares, as a bold stride towards modernizing the livestock sector.

He emphasized that the project ensures zero waste by converting all by-products into wealth-generating ventures, thereby boosting economic growth and environmental sustainability.

“This initiative represents a new era in livestock management. With state-of-the-art facilities, every part of slaughtered cattle will be fully utilized, creating over 20,000 jobs and positioning Gombe as a global hub for meat processing and export,” Maiha stated.

The ultramodern abattoir, constructed at a cost of ₦7.55 billion by Lubell Nigeria Limited, is designed to meet international standards, ensuring hygienic meat processing and efficient packaging for both local and global markets.

The minister also commended Gombe State’s commitment to livestock development through initiatives such as the 145-hectare Wawa-Zange grazing reserve, livestock vaccination campaigns, and farmer-herder dispute resolution committees.

He noted that these efforts align with the federal government’s vision of enhancing food security and promoting sustainable practices.

Governor Inuwa Yahaya, in his address, described the project as a symbol of his administration’s dedication to revitalizing agriculture and livestock sectors.

He outlined the broader scope of the Agro-Livestock Development Zone, which includes an international livestock market, fattening hubs, a tannery, and a dry port.

These initiatives aim to boost productivity, create jobs, and foster economic growth across the region.

“This project transforms Gombe into a hub for agriculture and livestock commerce, providing sustainable livelihoods and positioning the state as a model for others to follow,” the governor remarked.

The Emir of Gombe, Alhaji Abubakar Shehu Abubakar III, and the National President of MACBAN, Alhaji Baba Usman Ngelzarma, also lauded the governor’s visionary leadership in addressing farmer-herder challenges and promoting agricultural development.

The facility is set to revolutionize livestock practices in Gombe, creating ripples of progress across Northern Nigeria and beyond.
