A new northern political movement, the League of Northern Democrats (LND), has formalized its leadership structure, with former Kano State Governor, Ibrahim Shekarau, emerging as the pioneer chairman, and Hon. Emmanuel Jime from Benue State appointed as the secretary.
During a special meeting held at the Yar’Adua Centre in Abuja on Wednesday, the League established a steering committee and five subcommittees to drive its efforts in restoring peace and security across Northern Nigeria.
The League highlighted two primary objectives for its approved summit: first, to serve as a platform to unify the region, enhance security, and promote effective leadership; and second, to offer viable northern solutions to the pressing challenges of disunity, insecurity, and poverty.
In a press statement signed by the Convener, Dr. Umar Ardo, and the Secretary, Hon. Emmanuel Jime, the League announced that the steering committee would be chaired by Senator Ibrahim Ida (Wazirin Katsina), with Rt. Hon. Ibrahim Bio from Kwara State as Deputy Chairman.
The statement also detailed the leadership of the subcommittees as follows:
–Contact and Mobilization: Dr. Ja’afar Bello Dambazau (Kano State)
-Programs Planning & Logistics: Alh. Danjuma Ibrahim (Sokoto State)
-Media & Publicity: Dr. Ladan Salihu (Bauchi State)
-Intelligence & Security: AVM Monday Morgan (Benue State)
-Events and Protocol: Amb. Mohammed Hassan (Borno State)
Additionally, Dr. Ladan Salihu, former Director-General of FRCN, was named the Spokesman of the League.
The League has scheduled the Northern Nigerian Summit for November 12th and 13th and plans to undertake high-level consultative visits to key stakeholders in the North, including former presidents, traditional and religious leaders, business figures, and retired officials, both civilian and military, to garner support for its activities.
