From Umar Dankano, Yola

A high-level delegation from the League of Northern Democrats (LND), led by its Chairman and former Governor of Kano State, Senator Ibrahim Shekarau, paid a sympathy visit to the government and people of Borno State.

In a statement from the League, the visit was to express solidarity and offer condolences to the government and residents of Borno over the recent devastating floods that caused widespread damage in Maiduguri and its surrounding areas.

Speaking at the Government House in Maiduguri on Wednesday, where the delegation was received by Governor Babagana Umara Zulum, Senator Shekarau highlighted the LND as an assembly of patriots from across the North, united to influence Nigeria’s politics for both regional and national development.

Describing the floods as a natural disaster, Shekarau announced a donation of N50 million from the LND members to support the victims of the floods in Borno State.

In his response, Governor Babagana Umara Zulum expressed deep gratitude to the LND for standing with his people in such challenging times. He praised the organization for its dedication to the region and the country, noting that their gesture was a positive and promising initiative.

Zulum emphasized that the LND’s efforts, if carried out genuinely, could help bring the North back on track politically, socially, and economically. He assured the delegation that their donation would be utilized effectively, but more importantly, he thanked them for the compassion they showed to the people of Borno.

“The LND, through this visit and donation, has demonstrated that it has the people’s interests at heart. I pledge my support to the League in any way possible,” Zulum stated.
