Low Enrollment Crisis: ALGON Vows to Support Gombe Polytechnic
From Abubakar Rabilu, Gombe
The management of Gombe State Polytechnic, Bajoga, in Funakaye Local Government Area, has raised concerns over the low enrollment of students in the institution, despite significant investments by the government in modernizing its facilities.
The Provost of the Polytechnic, Dr. Abbas Umar Farouq, explained that their visit to the Chairman of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) in Gombe State, Barrister Sani A. A. Haruna, was aimed at seeking collaborative solutions to address the issue.
He noted that while the government has provided advanced equipment and infrastructure, the poor enrollment rate threatens to derail these achievements, potentially undermining the efforts of Governor Muhammad Inuwa Yahaya to promote education in the state.
Responding Barrister Sani A. A. Haruna, who also serves as the Chairman of Gombe Local Government, assured the Polytechnic leadership of his commitment to resolving the problem.
“The low enrollment of students is a setback to the advancement of education, especially at this crucial level,” he stated.
Barrister Haruna praised Governor Yahaya for his dedication to improving education across all tiers and promised to engage other local government chairmen to find sustainable solutions to the challenges facing the Polytechnic.
This initiative, he assured, would focus on increasing student enrollment and ensuring that the Polytechnic thrives as a center of academic excellence in Gombe State.
