Mangal foundation launches free hernia, hydrocile surgeries in Katsina

The Dahiru Mangal Foundation has launched a free hernia and hydrocile screening and surgery programme for the less privileged in Katsina.

Mr Hussaini Kabir, a member of the foundation’s board of trustees, announced the initiative on Monday in Katsina, stating that the outreach aimed to serve 500 patients.

He said the programme, held at the General Hospital Katsina, sought to address the healthcare gap and provide improved access to quality services for vulnerable populations.

Kabir explained that the initiative offered comprehensive medical care, including consultations, laboratory tests, medications, and surgical procedures, all at no cost to the beneficiaries.

Highlighting the foundation’s commitment to humanitarian efforts, Kabir emphasised that the initiative plays a critical role in reducing healthcare disparities.

He noted that while the programme officially began in 2018, the foundation had been providing free medical services to vulnerable groups for over 15 years.

“Our goal is to alleviate the burden of healthcare costs on societies most vulnerable.

“Many individuals we assist struggle to meet basic needs, let alone afford medical treatment.

“The outreach primarily targets low-income individuals, especially those facing extreme poverty.

“More than 500 people are expected to benefit from this phase of the programme, and we plan to expand it to reach more communities,” Kabir said.

He said the foundation’s goal was to eliminate financial barriers to healthcare services and complement government efforts in improving public health outcomes, particularly for underserved populations.

Kabir also called on other organisations and well-meaning individuals to support the initiative and help expand access to essential healthcare services.

He stressed the need for a concerted effort to address the healthcare challenges faced by disadvantaged communities.(NAN)
