The Medical and Health Workers Union of Nigeria (MHWUN) has expressed deep sorrow over the sudden death of Haruna Adamu Zakirai, a Health Management Information System (HMIS) Officer with the Kano State Ministry of Health.
According to family sources, the late Zakirai passed away on Friday, 27th February, 2026. He was said to be in good health before his demise having observed the Asham prayer in congregation that evening and was seen outside until around 9 p.m. He was aged 46 and is survived by two wives and seven children.
In a condolence message signed by Comrade Auwal Zakari Ayagi (Barden Ayagi), Personal Assistant on Media and Publicity to the National President of MHWUN, Comrade Kabiru Ado Minjibir (Magayakin Minjibir), the union described Zakirai’s death as a painful loss to the entire health sector in Kano State.
The statement highlighted his remarkable dedication, professionalism, and commitment to improving the state’s health information system and overall healthcare service delivery.
“His demise is a painful loss not only to his immediate family but also to the entire health sector in Kano State and the union at large,” the statement read.
“We pray that Almighty Allah (SWT) forgives his shortcomings, grants him Aljannatul Firdaus, and gives his family, colleagues, and loved ones the strength and patience to bear this irreparable loss.”
The late Haruna Adamu Zakirai was widely respected among his peers for his hard work and selfless service to the health sector.
