Minister of Power Visits Bagaja Renewables’ Zawaciki 1MWp Mini-Grid, Applauds Renewable Energy Initiative Amidst Northern Power Crisis
The Honorable Minister of Power, Chief Adebayo Adelabu has visited Bagaja Renewables Zawaciki 1MWp interconnected mini-grid that is supplying electricity to Gida Dubu community, in Zawaciki, Kano State
This visit comes amid a prolonged power outage across Northern Nigeria, emphasizing the importance of reliable and decentralized power solutions. The Zawaciki mini-grid has proven invaluable during this crisis, providing at least 9 hours of daytime electricity to residents, underscoring the potential of renewable energy in enhancing energy resilience and community support.
During his visit, the Minister expressed his admiration for the project, recognizing Zawaciki as a vital proof of concept for interconnected mini-grids across Nigeria.
Adelabu called on state governors and other stakeholders to support initiatives like these, which are pivotal in decentralizing and strengthening the national power infrastructures, by backing renewable energy projects, stakeholders can play a crucial role in reducing reliance on the national grid and ensuring a stable, sustainable power supply for local communities.
Conducting the minister round the facility, the Managing Director of Bagaja Renewables, Sadiq Zakari said “Zawaciki stands as a model for what is possible when the private sector leads with innovative solutions to our energy challenges,”
He added that “With the right policy support and stakeholder involvement, renewable energy solutions like ours can become the backbone of a resilient energy future for Nigeria.”
Zakari added that during this prolong power outage across the Northern Nigeria, the residents of Gida Dubu community enjoyed uninterrupted power supply from the Bagajainterconnected mini-grid, making them the only customer community enjoying power supply in the state.
In addition to Zawaciki, Bagaja Renewables is currently working on several new projects aimed at expanding renewable energy access across Northern Nigeria, including, Barhim Estate, Katsina: A residential-focused project to provide sustainable power to homes and enhance household energy access, Kura-Karfi Commercial Cluster, Kano: Designed to supply clean, reliable energy to commercial hubs, supporting local businesses and economic development, and Kafin Hausa, Jigawa: With fencing completed, this project is now in the technical design phase, preparing for Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) to commence soon.
