NAF Commissions New Paediatric Ward, Renovates General Ward in Kano Community
The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) on 23 October 2025 commissioned a newly completed Paediatric Ward and a renovated General Ward at the Gwagwarwa Comprehensive Clinic and Maternity Centre in Nassarawa Local Government Area of Kano State.
Executed under the Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Hasan Bala Abubakar’s Special Intervention Quick Impact Projects (QIP) initiative, the project demonstrates NAF’s enduring commitment to strengthening civil-military relations and improving community well-being. Dedicated in honour of Air Vice Marshal (AVM) Kabir Mukhtar Umar, the intervention included the furnishing and equipping of the Paediatric Ward and the comprehensive rehabilitation of the General Ward, featuring solar lighting, 20 hospital beds, and modern medical equipment such as oxygen concentrators, radiant warmers, pulse oximeters, and resuscitators.
Speaking at the event, the CAS, represented by the Chief of Civil-Military Relations, AVM Ibikunle Daramola, noted that the project reflects NAF’s belief that “national security is best sustained through cooperation and mutual trust between the military and the people we serve.”
He explained that the QIP initiative aims to support community development, strengthen the bond with host communities, and contribute to the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
The Governor of Kano State, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, represented by Dr Balarabe Ibrahim Gaya, commended the Nigerian Air Force for its people-oriented programmes, describing the intervention as “a clear example of the military’s contribution to sustainable community development” and a complement to the State Government’s efforts to improve healthcare accessibility.
AVM Kabir Mukhtar Umar expressed gratitude to the CAS for transforming a long-standing healthcare challenge into “a beacon of hope for the people,” while urging residents to take ownership of the facility.
The NAF reaffirmed its steadfast commitment to safeguarding lives and property through smarter delivery of airpower, technology-driven innovation, and strategic partnerships.
Beyond defending the skies, the Service remains dedicated to implementing impactful community projects that enhance quality of life and strengthen public trust. “Our mission goes beyond defending the skies; it is about protecting lives, empowering communities, and building a secure, prosperous Nigeria,” the CAS affirmed.
