Sources familiar with the development confirmed that Prof. Saleh tendered his resignation after what they described as “deep reflection,” stressing that the decision was neither influenced by the NAHCON board nor driven by pressure from external quarters.
According to the sources, the former chairman voluntarily chose to step aside at this time, believing it to be in the best interest of the institution.
They explained that Prof. Saleh’s decision was informed by his desire to allow NAHCON remain fully focused on its statutory responsibilities, especially as preparations intensify for forthcoming Hajj operations.
With critical planning and coordination activities underway, the sources noted that he considered his resignation a responsible step to prevent any potential distractions that could affect the Commission’s mandate.
Despite stepping down, Prof. Saleh is said to have reaffirmed his commitment to the success of Nigeria’s Hajj administration framework.
He has reportedly pledged to continue cooperating with relevant authorities to ensure a seamless transition and sustained stability within the Commission.
Arrangements are also underway, according to the sources, to ensure continuity of leadership and uninterrupted operations at NAHCON, as stakeholders await official announcements regarding interim or substantive leadership of the Commission.
The National Hajj Commission of Nigeria plays a central role in regulating and coordinating Hajj and Umrah activities for Nigerian pilgrims, making leadership stability a critical factor as the country prepares for upcoming pilgrimage seasons.
